5 Tips for a Stress-Free Wedding Day
From Someone Who’s Seen it All
Wedding days can be STRESSFUL!! You have planned and planned for MONTHS for this one day. Making sure it goes absolutely PERFECTLY is the dream of every couple. If you can, hire a day-of coordinator. This one job can alleviate SO much on the day of your wedding! Aside from this, here are 5 tips for a stress-free wedding day. Check them off, and make sure your wedding day goes phenomenally well!
Stress-Free Wedding day Tip #1: Make note cards, or better yet, a BINDER!
If you have hired a day-of coordinator, make SURE they are familiar with your style, vision, and needs for the wedding day. Otherwise, delegate, delegate, delegate! On the day of your wedding, you don’t want to have to worry about anything following your dream and vision. Usually, your guests will be MORE than happy to help, especially if they know ahead of time. Make note cards for each person with specific details as to what to do, when, and with whom. I know it sounds overkill, but the more detailed you can be, the easier it will be for them to fulfill your vision, and you will spend less time fretting that they are doing what needs to get done.
Stress-Free Wedding day Tip #2: Leave gaps in your itinerary
Murphy LOVES to mess with timelines. I have found that if you can add 15-20 minutes into the schedule here and there, you will stay on time MUCH easier. If there is any travel involved, add at LEAST 15-20 minutes. In my almost a decade of shooting weddings, I have only had a handful of wedding days actually go fully according to schedule from start to finish. I hate to say it, but it is actually UNCOMMON to have an itinerary followed exactly. If you have this extra time baked into the schedule, it will allow for these fluxes in time to go by easier and not stress you out.
Stress-Free Wedding day Tip #3: Communicate with your vendors beforehand
One of the things that is a MUST between my couples and I is the pre-wedding consultation. You DO NOT want to be making any decisions on the day of your wedding. Of course, adding one or two shots during the family formals is fine, but I need to know if mom and dad are amicable or not. The florist needs to know if the guys are putting boutonnieres on at the church or the hotel, and the guys need to know WHO’S putting them on – trust me, you don’t want them making those decisions on their own. 🙂 Make sure to touch base with everyone at least two weeks before your big day to make sure they are all on board. I absolutely LOVE when I get an email from the bride to all the different vendors with a detailed timeline.
Stress-Free Wedding day Tip #4: Have snacks available all day
The last thing you want on your wedding day is to get HANGRY! Depending on the timeline, there may not be time for an actual lunch. Having a couple of trays of finger foods available during the day can be a lifesaver. I know it sounds crazy, but spiked levels of cortisol throughout the day from the hustle and bustle of getting ready can wreak havoc on your blood sugar. Morning mimosas are a BEAUTIFUL thing, but eating a little bit here and there and making sure you drink WATER can be a game-changer!
Stress-Free Wedding day Tip #5: Be Flexible
Face it. Things are going to happen, and you can’t let it shake you. I’ve had to change the locations of BEAUTIFUL first looks because of mud, weather, etc. Oh, and last-minute dinosaur costumes that no longer fit where we were originally going to be. When flexibility is necessary, TRUST that your wedding professionals are just that – professional. This is not their first rodeo, nor will it be their last. If you’ve had enough communication beforehand, they know your vision for your wedding day and can guide you through the best options available. At the end of the day, you are marrying the most important person in your life – focus on that aspect no matter what, and everything else is small potatoes.
Hopefully, these 5 tips for a stress-free wedding day have given you something to think about. If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up – I’m an open book! In the meantime, check out my next post, How to have AWESOME getting ready photos no matter where you are!
